June 12, 2011
A new slate of officers were elected on June 9th at the regular meeting. Next year looks to be and exciting and wonderful year again with July 1st when the new officers take over.
President - Alejandro Tornato
VP Education - Kim Cobler
VP Membership - Jeri Evans
VP PR - Doug Woodall

It was an exciting election with challenges to more than one office. The meeting moved quickly although we had to shorten our Table Topic time to compensate we'll make up for it next time.

Or at least so it seems!
We are having a wonderful month of May at Salty Tongues! We have new members as well as the return of Bruce after being away from us for a year! We are so lucky to have such wonderful members!
Doug Woodall just earned his Advance Communicator Bronze this month. Karen Kenner completed her Competant Leader Award last week. This week Ken Sorenson finished his Competant Communicator! Our members have been so busy!
Now is the time to show up and step up! Every week our meetings are lively and educational! We are getting ready in a few short weeks to elect new club officers. Are you up for the challenge? Let one of our current officers know that you are ready to serve and we will be sure to put your name on the ballot!
See you next time - Sharon Aaron, DTM, Salty Tongues Club President

April is a busy Toastmaster Month!
April 11, 2011
So many fun activities in the month of April. Our open house was so much fun I am ready to suggest we have another very soon! We had several guests and we were able to explain the Toastmaster Program to them. We had food and decorations and wonderful guest speakers.
Did I mention we had snow outside? The best plans can't anticipate a spring storm that kept many people home,
Our Area Contest brought out the best speakers in our Area! What a great contest! Lawrence won the evaluation portion of the contest and will go on to compete at the Division E contest on April 30th.
We manage to have speakers each week, but we're always looking for evaluators. Take a chance - sign up to evaluate - hone those important skills. You can take what you learn about evaluating here at the club right out into the world. Knowing how to evaluate a speech or a stiuation can be valuable in any job or calling. Listen to some politicians on the television and for fun evaluate their speaking skills - there are some really great speakers out there, but you'll find there are some lousey ones as well.
Have...

The Holidays are Coming!
November 12, 2010
Each year the holidays come - I don't know about you but every year I seem to be surprised that they get here again so fast. I've never quite recovered from the last ones and here they are again.
With the holidays come many family obligations and events. Our meetings are often minus some key players and we have to scramble when we arrive to fill all the vacancies. It would be wonderful if each of us could let the Toastmaser or the person who is doing the scheduling when we are not available to fill our assignments.
Let's all enjoy the holidays and show up for as many meetings as we can. But when we can't let's be sure someone knows before the meeting!
Thanks to every member of Salty Tongues just for being YOU! Every one of you add something special to our wonderful club and you are appreciated!

Minutes from Meeting on September 9, 2010 - Thanks Doug for taking minutes!!
September 14, 2010
Salty Tongues weekly meeting for Sept. 9, 2010
Lawrence was Toastmaster. He made the theme about State Fairs. This was because the Utah State Fair started that day (9/9/10). This was also because of his fond memories of the county fairs he attended while growing up in Ohio. Lawrence brought popcorn and roasted peanuts for everyone to enjoy and give the meeting a taste of a fair.
The speakers were Susan Smith and Doug Woodall. Susan gave a well-prepared talk on dandelions, and Doug gave a pocket speech on three rules for raising children.
Warren was General Evaluator. Sandra evaluated Susan’s speech, and Karen evaluated Doug’s.
Sharon was Table Topics Master. She based her topics on State Fairs and fall activities such as shopping for back to school and taking drives up the canyons to see the leaves.
Doug took Best Speech.
One interesting thing that happened at the meeting without any intent to do so was all the women sat on the east side of the room and all the men sat on the west side. You would have thought it was Sadie Hawkins Day instead of the start of the Utah State Fair.
